Golden Pass   Senior Seminars

The Golden Pass is a senior citizen's ticket to some of the fine athletic, musical and dramatic events held at North Kansas City Schools (athletic tournaments or play-offs are not included).

Seniors with a Golden Pass can visit any of our school cafeterias by first making early morning reservations. Cost for breakfast is $1.60 and lunch, $2.75.

Additionally, the Golden Pass offers a newsletter distributed two times a year that highlights district information and celebrations, as well as gives advanced notification of special events.

To receive the free pass, you must be 62 years of age and live within the boundaries of the North Kansas City School District. Once you receive a pass, it's good for life. No need to renew.

Contact Diana Duffy, Community Relations, at 816.413.5047 to apply for the Golden Pass.

The Senior Seminar Series has been presented by North Kansas City Schools since 1980. The programs are offered as a free service to the community's retirees and other interested persons in appreciation of their support for public education.

Seminars are held on the first and third Wednesday of the month during the school year at Antioch Community Church, 4805 N.E. Antioch Road. Coffee and donuts are served at 9:30 a.m. followed by a program at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

No reservations are necessary. The church is handicap accessible, and parking is available. Call Diana Duffy, Community Relations coordinator, at 816.413.5047 for more details.

The Senior Tax Exchange Program (STEP) is an employment opportunity for senior citizens to work in the district and apply their earnings toward payment of school property taxes.

Any senior who is 62 years of age or older, who receives social security and has taxable property within the North Kansas City School District is eligible to apply.

The STEP employee will have the flexibility of choosing when and how many hours per week he or she works, as long as the 78 hours are completed within the calendar year.
